Internships

The Foundation has put together and internship programme for local and foreign students. The response has been very positive. The programme combines hands on work with project planning to give students a good all round experience. The programme currently accomodates up to 5 students at one time, and exceeded 1200 days of foreign students in 2004. The students are also considered Gaia's ecotourists, for they combine low impact travel with culture and education. Low cost accomodation is provided, together with bicycle transport to work. Car Pooling is also available on rainy days, with Gaia's vehicles that run on biodiesel. Organic food is also made available at teh centre.

The programme is also open to volunteers who do not wish to carry out and internship. If you would like to join our internship or volunteer programme click here.

Gaia also hosts a number of internship programmes organised by foreign Universities.

James Madison University (Harrisonburg VA, USA) students

James Madison University offers students the opportunity to participate in a 4-week intensive field-study-abroad programme for which they gain credit towards their studies. During the summer of 2000 a group of such students worked with the foundation to develop an environmental management plan for Ramla Bay in Gozo. In the spring of 2001, another group of students worked with Gaia staff on the design of information billboards to be placed in the Elysium Visitor Centre. In 2002 James Madison University, worked on a report on Biodiesel in Malta, and in 2003 on a manual on greening hotels

Institute of Agriculture, University of Malta students

Two students from the Institute opted to carry out the practicum requirement for their course with the foundation working on Project Persephone. Throughout the 2001/2002 semester the students dedicated two mornings a week to helping out in the organic field and the running of the organic food club.

If you're interested in setting up a similar work-for-academic credit programme please contact us.
