Midas - The Shop
Welcome to Midas in cyberspace, Malta's first organic shop, situated inside The Gaia Foundation's Visitor Centre at Għajn Tuffieħa, Malta.
:: Why Midas?
Midas was known for his greed. His wish for everything he touched to be turned to gold lead to his despair as this King of Crete began to starve as every precious morsel that he attempted to eat turned to gold. Our greed can lead to our ruin. Our true wealth, the living gold, lies in healthy, eco friendly, nutritious and ethical goods that engender a better quality of life for all, producers, labourers and consumers.
:: How to get here?

Head all the way to Golden Sands our centre is close to Apple's Eye at the edge of Għajn Tuffieħa Road. Our Centre is surrounded by a green fence. A large reservoir is situated inside. You cannot miss it.
:: We have a growing list of products, which include:
Organically grown fresh fruit and vegetables: duly certified (make link to a photo of our certification. These are grown by the Foundation itself at its Persephone organic farm, or by one of its producer members (link to details of challie vella, Mario grech, joe borg, mallia etc. + copies of certificates)

Organic body products: like Weleda
Traditional local products: like honey, carob syrup, jams, capers, olives, olive oil, sun dried tomatoes.
Gluten free range: like pizzas, pasta, biscuits etc.
Fair Trade goods: like coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, sugar, honey obtained from Arka, St. Paul's Street, Valletta, corner with St. John's Street. Many of these foodstuffs have also obtained the organic certification.
Ethically and directly traded jewellery: We are supporting an indigenous community in Equador by selling jewellery made by artisans. 100% of the sale price goes directly to the artisans in the Rainforest.
Eco friendly cleaning products: We have an extensive variety of household products like detergents, washing up liquids, floor cleaners and polish that are not harmful to the environment. A small island should be conscious of the enormous damage done to its marine environment by cleaning products that are high in phosphates and other chemicals as these get washed down the waste water stream and into the sea.
