Is the Persephone Organic Club produce certified?
The Gaia Foundation successfully obtained certification by the Malta Standards Authority (MSA) that it is in conversion to organic farming. The certification number MT01 AB003.
Gaia is one of the first in Malta to obtain this, Even though it has farmed organically since 2001 in fields that were fallow between 1996-2001, according to E.U procedures, the certification system, which started in Malta in 2005, must got through a minimum period of 1 year prior to being given a full certification for organic food.
Gaia is certified to produce the following items organically: onions, tomatoes, lettuce, beetroot, broad beans, potatoes, greenpepper, radish, cabbage, garlic, peas, pumkin, artichokes, carrots, aubergine, zucchini, celery, kohl rabi, rucola, parsley, grapes, figs, olives, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, string beans and fennel
The Persephone project is offering assistance to farmers who are interested in converting to organic methods of farming. Persephone project is also helping some farmers to apply for their official certification with the Malta Standards Authority.
